Low-cost transceiver technology for global M2M applications
Herndon, VA – September 30, 2008 - MobiApps, Inc., a leading provider of wireless data communication products and technologies, announced today the availability of its newest design, the m10 miniature satellite module. The m10 achieves multiple breakthroughs in size, price and performance through the use of MobiApps’ own custom designed and patented mixed signal ASIC. Its size and simplicity enables OEMs and integrators to easily create compelling system solutions benefitting from worldwide wireless connectivity over ORBCOMM’s global low-Earth orbit satellite network.
The m10 module package is designed as an insertable component on a PCB assembly line, making it easy to integrate with any application hardware. It measures only 7.5 x 4.5 cm and weighs 50 grams, and is equipped with thru-hole PCB mounting tabs. The application system need only provide power, antenna and a serial link.
To date, such miniaturized data communications technologies have only been available in terrestrial-based GSM/GPRS/CDMA systems. Now, with the m10, a wide range of M2M applications can extend coverage and visibility to a global domain. The types of mobile equipment well-suited for integrating the m10 include commercial vehicles, trailers, rail cars, fishing vessels, freight barges, pleasure boats, construction equipment, automobiles and shipping containers. Examples of remote equipment include generators, utility meters, pipelines, LPG tanks and oil wells.
Samples of m10 and development kits are available immediately for key customers, with commercial volumes due to ship at the end of this year.
